After a decade starting with Windows 2000, then XP, and the disaster that was Vista, Microsoft has announced they’ve sold 240 million copies of Windows 7 since its release one year ago. Microsoft finally has the operating system everyone is willing to upgrade to. Windows 7 has been a success any way you measure it. Indeed, on the eve of Windows 7′s first anniversary here is what Windows Team Blog had to say:
As I’ve said before, Windows 7 is the fastest selling operating system in history with 7 copies of Windows 7 sold every second. Earlier this month, I published a post about Tami Reller’s keynote at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch U.S. Technology Conference. One of the points that stood out for me was her comment that between companies actively deploying and evaluating it, approximately 75% of enterprises are looking at Windows 7 for their organization. That’s amazing!
Even so, there are a lot of Windows XP installations out there both at home and in business. According to NetMarketShare, fully 60% of computers are still running Windows XP compared to 17% running Windows 7 and a bit less than 5% running an operating system from Apple. This means a lot more people will be upgrading to Windows 7 in the next year.
